Bikes in WAS.

On our first day on the ground in Washington we took a stroll down to the White House. I snapped some photos of cyclists.

I know I wasn't in WAS for long enough to get a proper representation of what the cycling culture is like, but this is mostly what I saw. Very sporty! Oh, and lots of the people on bikes were tourists. It made me happy that people wanted to see the city by bike, but I have one big qualm.

Stop riding on the sidewalk! It's one thing if you need to run up onto the corner to hit the crosswalk button. It's another if there is a gigantic windrow of snow blocking the street. I know there are exceptions.

But if you're biking on the sidewalk full of thousands of pedestrians? It's annoying and actually very difficult to do. Stop it. Please take the street. There is so much human traffic you won't be getting anywhere, anyway. I didn't get a chance to take photos of these culprits. You can use your imagination.

And hey, I did see the odd poppy beach cruiser.
