Boo-Hoo ..This Blog was removed by BOTS

I'm Baaack.....

Tried to post today but poor little RidingPretty was commandeered into the VOID by Spam seeking BOTS.

Happily everything got sorted out in a timely fashion...it only took about 10 hours to be alive and well again. Yikes!!!!I read horror stories of people being shut out for weeks. I was lucky indeed.

Whew!

Amy’s Photo ---from Melbourne—The Vicious Cycles

amy's bike 2

‘….my bike and my bike riding pals (we call ourselves The Vicious Cycles - and we love to ride around Melbourne, listening to tunes and turning heads).

I thought you might be interested in a portrait (attached) that my friend James McCulloch took of me with my bike - an Electra cruiser. The pic was taken with slow film (rather than any digital magic), so I am standing very still while my two friends Katie and Al ride past behind.’

PURE –Style -- CatSuit

Was she wearing a jumpsuit, or a playsuit? Or would you call it an ‘all-in-one’? mmmm…

Well then, most definitely a catsuit.

She told me she was a performance artist... I wished I’d remembered and/or written her name down. When I got home and saw these photos I knew she would be really good at her art.

I covered it here as well. ***I highly recommend the pattern for the making the bicycle seat cover*** …If you want the DIY instruction .pdf, well then just email me for it. Bust Magazine and Sara sent it along and are happy for me to distribute the .pdf out to you. shelly@ridingpretty.com

Copenhagen Cycle Chic with this great DIY to personalize your bicycle and to get you inspired.

Want to covert convert your existing hybrid bicycle into a commute bike? Plus find out where to just maybe find a plastic chain cover. Really this whole primer is just plain good information.

Slow Movement – San Francisco ....Bicycles?

slow bicycle copy

Are there any any Slow Rides, Slow Ride-Social Riding Clubs or Slow Movement Bicycle type events ...at or during the Slow Food Nation '08 on Aug. 29th to Sept. 1st in San Francisco? Not just yet...

I began talking about the Slow Movement and the way I connected with it starting back in March. Anyway a big tip of the bicycle helmet to Slow Bicycle Movement for picking up on it and supporting it in a huge way....Quoted here... "So I figured it was about time that we finally got around to this Slow Bicycle Movement."

With the growing interest in a slower pace of life (besides when it comes to riding your bicycle) see how it all fits in with the larger concepts ...

And now, for all of you in the USA and curious about the whole Slow Movement definitely check this out.

sf victory gardens

SF City Civic Center Plaza is being turned into a Slow Food Nation Victory Garden.

Way back in the day, my grandmother use to tell me about her own victory garden like the one described in this handbook. Later on I became a fan of futurefarmers and anyone willing to eat out of their front lawn , as inspired by the Artist Fritz Haeg.

Let me know if you are planning any Slow Rides!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whoops...I don't have a sticker for you to put on your blog or your bicycle.

DIY Baskets Round-Up

Spotted these around town....

I love the inventiveness. Recycle. Use what you've got.

I use a picnic basket myself.

Pure Style -- Chopper King

On my way to shop at the San Francisco Ferry Building for some Slow Food goodies, I met Raymond.

Check out the fine detail on his ride... He built it himself. He told me no has ever asked him much about his bike. They stare, snap a pic and walk off. So when I asked him if he would build just such a ride for someone else... he looked totally surprised. Then he said; ‘Sure.’ After a search he handed me a card for his place of work (non bike related.)

SO…if anyone out there wants a ride like Raymond’s…then email me... shelly@ridingpretty.com

He said it would be just fine to pass along his info to interested parties.

Bicycle helmet

A bicycle helmet is a helmet intended to be worn while riding a bicycle. They are designed to attenuate impacts to the cranium of a cyclist in falls while minimizing side effects such as interference with peripheral vision. There is intense academic debate on whether helmet use offers any reduction of the chance of head injury. The debate on whether helmet use should be compulsory is even more intense and occasionally bitter, often based not only on differing interpretations of the academic literature, but also on differing assumptions and interests on the two sides.

A cycle helmet should be light in weight and should provide adequate ventilation, because cycling can be an intense aerobic activity which significantly raises body temperature and the head in particular needs to be able to regulate its temperature.
